Very First Steps

Following the death of a loved one, either you or the funeral home can contact the church at 306.586.7844. After hour contacts are also provided.

Meeting with a Minister

When you are able, a Minister will meet with you to learn about the life of the deceased and will assist you in planning a personal and meaningful service of remembrance. We seek, through shared stories and memories to craft a service that will be the most powerful, meaningful, authentic expression of your loved one’s life. Together, you will determine a suitable date, time, and location for the service. The service may take place in the Worship Centre or Chapel at Lakeview United Church or at the funeral home of your choice.

Our Facilities

We have the facilities to handle small groups of up to 50 people (in our Chapel) and up to 800+ in our Worship Centre and Welcome Centre. Our facilities are equipped with monitors and a sound system for audio and music. We can accommodate even larger groups by utilizing our auditorium and McDonald Room which can also be equipped with screens for video streaming.

Rental costs of the facilities are available from the church office or your funeral home.

The Service

A service of remembrance may take various forms. It may be a funeral service (in which a casket or urn is present) or a memorial service (in which a casket or urn is not present). A service of committal may also take place at the time of interment at a cemetery or columbarium.

Generally, a service of remembrance includes readings, prayers, hymns, the sharing of memories, a eulogy, and music. Family members and close friends may wish to participate in the service through the reading of scripture or the sharing of memories about the deceased’s life. The Minister is available to assist you in creating the perfect service to remember your loved one and celebrate their life.

In addition to the inclusion of hymns, you may wish to have other music selections played prior to and during the service. Our ministers or church musician can provide guidance in this regard.

A guest book, flowers, candles, and photographs to remember the deceased’s life are welcomed.

Receptions

A reception following the service allows time for family and friends to gather together, share memories, and comfort one another. Receptions at Lakeview United Church may be held in the MacDonald Room, or the auditorium, depending on the size.  The church office or the minister can provide you with the contact information of those who can provide the reception services.

Memorials

As a way of honouring your loved one, family members and friends may wish to consider making a donation to Lakeview United Church.

Continued Care and Support

While a service of remembrance offers a measure of closure for those who have lost a loved one, dealing with loss may take a long time. We are here to help. We offer care and support through visits with a minister or other members of our pastoral care team, through prayer requests, and through our library of resource materials. Let us walk with you through your grief and healing!
